Every day is a play day at Ruth Landau Harp Early Learning! β˜”πŸŒˆ

Did you know that our Centre provides rainwear for children? From our Babies Puddlesuits to wet weather gear for older children, we ensure that everyone can enjoy outdoor play-based learning experiences, whatever the weather.

We believe there is no such thing as bad weather – only inappropriate clothing. With the right rainwear, children can splash, explore, discover and connect with nature all year round.

🌿🐘 Small World Play in the Outdoors πŸ’πŸ‚

While enjoying the outdoor environment, the Adventurers were invited to explore a thoughtfully prepared small world play experience created by Miss Alana. Set up on the bench in the sandpit, this open-ended learning experience encouraged imagination, creativity and storytelling.

Using a variety of natural materials including leaves, sticks, sand and wood chips, alongside a collection of animal figures, the children created their own unique worlds and narratives. The loose parts provided endless possibilities for exploration, allowing each child to engage in play in their own way.

Many of the Adventurers were drawn to the small world and spent extended periods immersed in their play, demonstrating concentration, problem-solving, creativity and collaborative skills. It was wonderful to see the children using their imaginations to bring their stories to life while connecting with the natural environment around them.

πŸ”πŸŒΏ "What can you see?" πŸŒΏπŸ”

Inspired by our current focus on The Monkey Puzzle, the Adventurers set off on their very own outdoor exploration this morning.

Just like the little monkey in the story who journeys through the jungle with the butterfly in search of his mummy, the children embarked on an adventure around our garden armed with binoculars and curious minds. As they carefully explored their surroundings, they stopped to observe the world around them and shared what they could see.

The children excitedly pointed out "trees", "houses" and even a "helicopter" flying overhead! Along the way, they searched for animals, insects and other wonders in nature, taking time to look closely and appreciate the environment around them.

This play-based learning experience encouraged the children to develop their observation and communication skills while making meaningful connections to a much-loved story. It was also wonderful to see them demonstrating kindness and respect by sharing the binoculars, patiently taking turns and showing increasing awareness of the needs of others.

What a fantastic adventure of discovery, imagination and learning! πŸ’πŸ¦‹πŸŒ³

🎨 Self-Portrait Artists at Work! 🎨

At the art table, the children worked on creating self-portraits, carefully drawing and recreating images of themselves.

They did a fantastic job observing their unique features and expressing their creativity through art. Self-portrait drawing encourages children to develop self-awareness, observation skills and confidence while exploring different ways to express themselves.

We are so proud of their thoughtful efforts and artistic creations! 🌟

🌟 Exploring Light and Shadow! 🌟

Last week, Miss Heather set up a projector and shone it onto the wall, creating a wonderful opportunity for discovery and learning.

The children experimented with light and dark, observing their shadows and investigating how their size changed depending on how close or far away they stood from the wall. Through play and exploration, they developed an understanding of cause and effect while engaging their curiosity about the world around them.

What a fun and interactive way to learn about light, shadows and perspective! ✨
